Marriage certificate

I am from Mumbai and and got married to a girl in town near Varanasi in 2020 and now living in Mumbai with wife. Now i want to get marriage certificate , please advise on the procedure and from which place i can get the same. Will i have to get it from Varanasi where wedding took place or is it possible to get from Mumbai, mine all documents are of Mumbai address

You can get the registration of your marriage from the Registrar of Marriages in Mumbai. If you go for Hindu marriage you shall obtain a receipt from the temple where your marriage was done in Varanasi, otherwise, Special Marriage in Mumbai.

To my understanding, the marriage ought to have been registered at the place where the marriage ceremony had taken place i.e. Varanasi.

Of course you can get it registered in Mumbai if you and your wife go through the empty rituals or procedures in Mumbai without disclosing the marriage already solemnised and consummated!

Do you have any evidence of marriage (in Varanasi or Mumbai) and proof of residence ? If so, it can be registered at the place of your residence i.e., Mumbai.
Contact and consult a local prudent lawyer to get it registered as per your personal (Hindu / Muslim / Christian) law.

You need to submit proof of marriage for marriage registration.Marriage can be registered at the place where marrige ceromonies was performrd or at the place where you resides permanently.
