Lost original documents of my car

Dear experts, I have lost original documents of my car. RTO asked me to approach crime branch. Crime branch says file a suit for obtaining duplicate copies. Who is to be made defendants? What should prayer clause contain?

Any registered owner can apply for a duplicate registration certificate in case the original one is either lost or mutilated after submitting following documents:

1.Application on form 26 (in duplicate and one copy duly attested along with the endorsement from the financier of Hypothecated).
2.Original copy of the F.I.R/N.C.R.
3.Attested copy of valid insurance policy.
4.Attested copy of pollution under control certificate.
5.Attested copy of address proof.
6.Prescribed fee.
7.Challan clearance from traffic police & Enforcement wing Transport Department in commercial vehicles.
8.Tax clearance from Accounts Department in commercial vehicles.
9.Attested copy of PAN Card or Form 60 & 61(as applicable)
Note: Attested copy means photo copy attested by MLA/ Nigam Parshad/ Gazetted officer/ notary public.

visit the website of RTO of your state . it will contain the detailed procedure for obtaining duplicate documents .

generally police complaint about documents are lost should suffice . in addition place notice in local newspapers . submit these documents to RTO fill in some forms and you get your duplicate copy .

You need not go to court for obtaining duplicate of car RC book.

Give a police complaint. produce the FIR to the RTO office and the car. You will get the duplicate copy.

Agree with Mr. Arunagiri. It is the duty of the local Motor Vehicles Dept. to give U fresh papers once they are satisfied about your bonafides. The court can come in only on refusal to do so.

Almost same is the procedure to obtain the duplicate copies of registration certificates of vehicles in India. Follo the advice of sethi.

OKAY! you have lost original documents of your car.

Have you lodged information at local police station of the area where you lost the papers?????

Did you visit RTO after reporting loss to the police????

Has RTO refused even after lost report made to police to issue you duplicate papers??????????
