Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 12 February 2010 This query is : Resolved
My self is working in a listed company as a semi company secretary cum in house legal advisor( qualified LL.B). But i don't have any court experience. I usually draft various agreements entered with the third party and follow up the legal matters with them and bankers and lawyersand other listing requirements. The compoensession i get is satisfactory. However if want to restart my carrer as a corporate lawyer will the above experience do? Some has advised that as i dont have any court experience it will hamper. Can any body give advise. If any body is interested i may mail my C.V to his mail id.

Since you have worked as company secretary, you certainly would have gained good amount of knowledge of corporate laws out of such experience. This may be very helpful for you when you enter the legal profession as a corporate lawyer. You can gain court experience when you practice full time corporate laws. Everything takes time in life. You may require hardly 2 or 3 years to gain good exposure of corporate laws when you practice as a lawyer.

Best of luck.

You need practical experience on the field. You need to jump into the practising area. However, since you are satisfied with your present compensation, think twice before venturing into individual practice.

Without attending the courts of law, you would not be able to know the procedure involved in practising.
