Moving two wheeler from one state to another

(Querist) 15 October 2015 This query is : Resolved
Im from tamilnadu and i own two wheeler for past 3 years.
Next month I am moving to Pune for new job. So I am planning to take my two wheeler with me.
I am going to stay only for few months. (6 months - 2 years).
Do i need to re-register my bike in Pune if i am staying for less than 12 months.

What is the validity of NOC certificate?

If you are planning to stay in the new state for more than an year, you will be required to register your vehicle with the new RTO – and for this you will require an N.O.C from the state where it was registered earlier.
Ref: http://morth.nic.in/, http://morth.nic.in/index2.asp?slid=609&sublinkid=338&lang=1 [Ministry of Road Transport & Highways – Govt. of India]

However if you are planning to move for few months (less than 11 months) only, then you may not have to register in the new state but you will have to pay the Road tax for that state – paying a road tax does not require NoC. However some cops still demand for that – so you may want to get it before leaving the state. But this would also mean that you may have to register your bike once again when you come back.

Thank you sir. It was a well explained reply for many of us.

I would like to clear many other doubts related to this.
1) What is the procedure for getting NOC from current RTO?
2) how much it costs for getting NOC?
3) Can we get the tax back for remaining years from existing RTO?
4) What if I get NOC and drive my bike in new state for 2 years without registering (without getting caught by police) and bring back to my original state. Can i register again or will my NOC gets expired?

Thanks & Regards,
Guna

Sri Gunasekaran,

Please contact RTA office and find out the details from them, since it differs from state to state.
