I am a ship Master has filed a Suit in Bombay High Court against my employer shipping company. My Union of which I am a member is pulling away from the matter, although they are an additional Defendant in the matter. They do not want to talk to me or pick up my phone. Kindly let me know what action should I take or the way I must follow so that I can convince them to help me in my matter are they legally bound to help the member or any action the member can initiate.

1. You can not legally force anybody including your Union to help you or support you in your problem. If questioned, they will tactfully pass the blame on you,
2. Such attitudes of Union leaders are well known in India for which you should not depend on their support,
3. In some cases, I known that the Union leader secretly disclosed all the defence of the union member to the management,
4. You shall have to engage your own lawyer & fight your case youself.
