PJANARDHANA REDDY (Expert) 11 October 2009
CAVEAT::A FORMAL NOTICE,WARNING.before proceeding on the related/concern case the other party is allowed to know it first.caveat IS VALID FOR 90 DAYS from the date of filing.

SLP: SPECIAL LEAVE PETITION filed in the H'ble supreme court.IT IS APPLICATION TO THE APEX COURT TO ALLOW LEAVE FROM THE ORDER OF THE OTHER JUDGMENT ALREADY PASSED/ORDERED

In simple language the meaning of kaviat is an application before the appellate court wherein it is thought that the opposite party shall file and appeal against the judgment of lower court and the appellant may get some ex-parte order. It is filed with a motive to hear the Caveator before passing any order in favour of appellant. The meaning of SLP has well been defined by P Janardhana.
Sachin Bhatia (Expert) 11 October 2009
Caveat: Caveat is the name of a notice or application given by a party having an interest, to some officer, not to do an act, till the party giving the notice shall have been heard; as, a caveat to the register of wills, or judge of probate, not to permit a will to be proved, or not to grant letters of administration, until the party shall have been heard.

S.L.P. : Under Article 136 of the Constitution of India any person aggrieved by any judgment, decree, determination or order in any cause or matter passed or made by any Court or Tribunal in the territory of India may appeal to the Supreme Court of India. Accordingly a person aggrieved by any order or judgment of High Court or of Tribunal may appeal to the Supreme Court by filing Special Leave Petition

Section 148-A of CPC defins the meaning of caveat, Any person who claims right to appear before the court to hear the application may lodge the caveat. Caveat falls under civil law. Refere civil prdr code section 148-A.
SPL- As sachin Bhatia suggests.
