Any property or valuable given to a woman at the time of her marriage or during the
marriage ceremony, any property conferred on her by way of a will, any gift given to her by her parents, siblings and in-laws are all part of the woman’s property stridhan). She is the rightful owner of all such property and her husband or his relatives have no right over such property. What ever given to wife legally comes within the definition of istridhan and it cannot be demanded from her through in practical life while reaching to a compromise, such items are returned by side of wife to her husband.

Your query is purely academic which experts who offered you definitions always decline to answer, since they have answered now my turn to answer you .

Any property or valuable given to a woman at the time of her marriage or during the
marriage ceremony, any property conferred on her by way of a will, any gift given to her by her parents, siblings and in-laws are all part of the woman’s property (Stridhan). She is the rightful owner of all such property and her husband or his relatives have no right over such property. With a view to avoiding any likely future dispute regarding stridhan property, the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 has provided that the presents made at the time of marriage should be entered in the list to be maintained in accordance with the
rules made under the Act.

The Supreme Court in Prathibha Rani Vs Suraj Kumar (AIR 1985 SC 628) has observed
that stridhan property of a married woman, even if it is placed in the custody of her
husband or in-laws, they would be deemed to be trustees and therefore are bound to
return the same when demanded by her.
A person who denies a woman her dowry-property or stridhan as explained above is
guilty of the offence of criminal breach of trust u/s 405/406 of the IPC.
The offence of criminal breach of trust is punishable with imprisonment up to 3 years or fine or both.
It is a cognizable, compoundable (up to Rs.250 only) and a non-bailable offence.

sir,

mera ek sawal aur hai, mera case abi courtme hai, is bar mediation k bad mere husband mutual divorced aur alimoney k liye tyar ho gaye hai.. to kya is condition me mere husband mujse mangalsutra, ring aur other jewellry ki demand kar sakte hai.
Raj Kumar Makkad (Expert) 19 December 2012
Ye aap logo ke samjhote par nirbhar karta hai. aap ek aur to permanent alimony lain aur unka diya gehna bhi rakhain ye t theek nhi aur viase bhi jiske sath tlak le rhi hain aap, uska mangal sutar bhi kya pehnna.
manisha (Querist) 20 December 2012
thank for ur answer sir...
but sir bat mangalsutra ki nahi hai.. wo to mai waise b nahi pahan rahi hun... maine ye question isliye kiya. qnki mere husband ne mediation k time mediator se ye kaha ki unk taraf se di hue jo jewellery hai uski kimat 50000/- ki hai. jabki ye sach nahi hai. unhone muje sirf mangalsutra aur ring diya hai baki jo b jewellery hai wo unk relative ne marriage k time muje di ti...jiski kimat more than 35000/- nahi hogi. to mai apse yah puchna chah rahi thi ki kya ab un jewellry par mera koi haq nahi hai... kya mere pati mujse wo jewellery ki demand kar sakte hai...?
ajay sethi (Expert) 20 December 2012

Raj Kumar Makkad (Expert) 20 December 2012
Kanooni treeke se to unka hak nhi hai magar maine to pehle hi kha hai ki ye sab aap logo ke samjhote par nirbhar krega.
