Rights in property distribution

Hi,

I am an employee in a small company and my salary is 1 lakh per annum and we are joint family. Since child, I do not have my father and I was grown up by my uncles along with my mother and a younger brother. Right now my grandfather is willing to distribute his property among the sons, but as I do not have my father and as I have not contributed any significant amount to the existing property they are willing to give only a small amount of their property which is almost negligible in comparison to theirs, and also I have requested them to give some acceptable amount, but they are reluctant to give along with my grandfather. Please advise me what should I do and how to claim our portion. I shall be very much obliged to you for your help. Thanks.

If the property is self earned property of your grand father then you have to accept whatever you receive. You don't have any right / claim in the lifetime of your grand father.

But, if the property is ancestral then all the property will be devided among all the children of your grand father equally. You, your mother and brother will get the share of your father as legal heir.
