Llb

(Querist) 14 November 2011 This query is : Resolved
I am thinking of pursuing LLB. Can any body let me know which institute in Maharashtra provides distance learning for the same.

Thanks in advance
R.Ramachandran (Expert) 14 November 2011
Dear Mr.Suresh,
LL.B. Course is not available through Distance Education anywhere in India. Only a regular course is recognised by Bar Council of India.

You can join BBL from Annamalai University and then LLM, both available in distance mode from Annamalai University.
In six year period, you will be an LLM and you can do anything pertains to law minus practice.
Law is not learnt for practice only.
There are several law branches wherein knowledge of law is useful and one can make a good career out of it also.
Annamalai is a good reputed central university and recognized by all like UGC and other related statutory bodies.

If you want to practice as a lawyer, join for a regular cource in law approved by Bar Council of India. If you want to acquire knowledge in law but not to practice, go for distance education in MBL (Master of Business Law)in National Law School of India University, in Bangalore.

1. LL.B. course has got to be a regular course in a Day College as per BCI Rules and it is not availalbe anywhere in India in distance mode.
2. BGL, BBL etc courses are not equivalent to LL.B.and do not entitle you to practise law.
3. Even if you study BGL etc in distance mode and study the third year in a regular college, the Supreme Court has held that you are not entitled to practise.
4 You can study BGL etc for the sake of a law degree for employment purposes or for doing LL.M.

If your purpose is only to have legal knowledge and learning law, the courses run by the Annmalai University are ideal. However, you cannot practice in the courts of law as an Advocate with such qualification.
