Namaste All,
I live in Cooperative Group Housing Society and the flat is in my mother's name. We have got two Lifts in our building and only one is operational from starting. We the members of the building in which we live contributed personally and got the other lift operational. Moment this lift got started mgmt. discontinued the other lift. Now recently Mgmt. in its general body meeting decided to fix the other LIFT and asked each member to Pay Rs 40,000/- for the modernisation of the other LIFT. This is they are demanding other than Maintenance Charges. I just wanted to know are we suppose to give this amount ? or can we deny or Confront this. My mother is a housewife.

Had you (your mother) opposed the proposal at the GB?

Dear Mr. Singh, You have opted to enjoy the luxury of residing and availing the facilities of a Cooperative Society, which has to cost members; you will agree that no one (outsider) is going to pay a single penny for any service/facility provided/extended to residents by Managing Committee of the Cooperative Society. If you do not want to pay, honour/agree GB decision, compell your mother to sell out flat and exit from cooperative society living. Best wishes

Have the mnagement passed any such resolution if the GB? If not, insist for the passage of a formal resolution for any substantial change in the existing arragements in the name of modernization.

You have posted that:
"We the members of the building in which we live contributed personally and got the other lift operational. Moment this lift got started mgmt. discontinued the other lift."
" Now recently Mgmt. in its general body meeting decided to fix the other LIFT and asked each member to Pay Rs 40,000/- for the modernisation of the other LIFT. "
The action of the management is arbitrary and dictum is high headed as management and in individual capacity.
The approach is against the spirit and essence of Co-operative.
You should raise voice.
You must attend the meetings.

you will be benefited by expert advice. Change your attitude towards non payment of charges & enjoying the facilities in cooperative society.
