Case of bigamy

(Querist) 18 April 2016 This query is : Resolved
Sir,
Has anyone been sent to jail so far on grounds of bigamy during the survival of first wife without obtaining divorce.

If yes how is a case of bigamy filed and does the court actually pronounce the punishment as stated in Law.?

Sudhir Kumar, Advocate (Expert) 18 April 2016
what is the problem you are facing.

looks like academic query.
Post your actual problem.

Your daughter should have complained already.

What is the problem and how you are concerned?
Prima facie it is an academic query. If it is not an academic query, what is the opinion and advise of your lawyer?

Learned R. K. Goyal is right.
some well wishers to me that they have not noticed any one sent behind the bars on bigamy case yet. They further told me instead of filing bigamy suit it is better good to settle the dispute mutually as the court will also eventually grant some maintenance only but do not send the husband into jail on ground of bigamy.

Thus the question.
