for a single offence 2 cases can well be registered. the simplest example where one is complainant in one and the accused in the other for the same offence on the same set of facts.

as for the imaginary problem this may well happen in reality. the course open to the aggrieved are not two fold. he may lodge a complaint case only i.e, a petition case as he may not apply for addition of sections for the reason that at the investigation stage no one has any say over the investigating agency or the I.O.
