I am working in a private school. Handling high school and higher secondary in Karnataka. When I joined I submitted a certificate. Now I needed them for a govt varification. From 10th till my last qualification for an attestation process. Now they are denying it. They are not giving certificates. Does the institution have any right to hold them? If they don't give what should I do?. Please help
If your employer is refusing to return your original educational certificates, they may be acting unlawfully. You have the right to request your documents back. Consider sending a formal legal notice to the institution. If that fails, escalating the matter to senior police authorities or obtaining duplicate copies from your examination board are potential next steps.

Give them some assurance. You can ask for your certificates using RTI. Even for RTI they deny, make to issue a legal notice to the school management.

Issue legal notice to the institution / employer for return of testimonials deposited by you, withheld unathorised and illegally.

The action of the management amounts to extortion. Try to bring the matter to the notice of senior police authorities such as SP of the District. Their intervention would sort out the issue.

Agreeing with Mr Venu I will add that in addition to extortion is is a practice of bounded labour.
Any way, you can get duplicate copy from Board /University from where you passed examination.
