yes you can get this information but not directly from the Doctor but from the other authorities.

Since Medical council of India has been absolved by the govt. of India, better you seek information in this regard from the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of your city.

The following provisions exist inIndian Medical Council (Professional conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002.

1.4 Display of registration numbers:

1.4.1 Every physician shall display the registration number accorded to him by the State Medical Council / Medical Council of India in his clinic and in all his prescriptions, certificates, money receipts given to his patients.

1.4.2 Physicians shall display as suffix to their names only recognized medical degrees or such certificates/diplomas and memberships/honours which confer professional knowledge or recognizes any exemplary qualification/achievements.

If any one doubts the genuineness of the said certificate and the person practising as a Doctor, then while seeking whether a person is registered with the MCI, minimum particulars like (i)name of the Doctor (ii) his registration Number etc., has to be furnished. Otherwise, even MCI will not be in a position to either confirm or deny the fact.
