I have a query regarding payment process of court fee to obtain succession certificate. Is it like pay the money to buy equivalent amount of stamp paper from stamp vendors and submit that stamp paper in court and get the succession certificate? Is there any kind of receipt provided which proves that the stamp duty is paid? I have been asked by my lawyer to give him the money, am concerned whether I will get a proof of the money paid or not.

1. The stamp paper themselves acquire the form of receipts. Rely upon your advocate.

You can directly purchase Stamp papers from treasury by depositing amount through challan in Bank if amount is heavy.
The stamp papers are proof of money paid for it.

Thank you for your responses. Another point, will I be able to retain those stamp papers after getting the succession certificate? Or they will be submitted in court?

Normal practice is that when application for succession certificate is granted, the court ask supplicant to deposit money by getting passed a 03folio bhallan by the court where after Nazirat of court accepts the cash and in proof of payment handovers 01 part of challan to applicant and there after Nazirat procures the stamp paper from treasury and sends the same to court concerned and then succession certificate format order as prescribed in the Indian succession Act is typed upon those stamps and after sign and seal of the court that very original is handed over to the applicant. And it is best practice as it keeps applicants free of risk of fake stamps involved with his private purchase from vendors.
The alternative route is to apply to Treasury telling purpose by application and after paying by challan and on collecting the stamp ,getting deposited in court.

Thanks a lot for detailed description. My lawyer said he will be opting the alternate route (paying by challan). And according to him the details of stamp duty paid will only be written on the certificate and I will not be provided any of those stamp papers purchased from treasery. I will only receive a copy of that challan and the succession certificate (partly hand written, partly typed) on a paper signed by the judge. Is this legitimate?

Just a note to the above comment, the succession certificate which I will be receiving will not be written on stamp paper - my lawyer told me so.
