No you cannot
Advocate. Arunagiri (Expert) 13 January 2011
Dont have a short term plan. Plan for the future, you can not change your caste. But, your children can have the choice of selecting the caste of mother or father.
G. ARAVINTHAN (Expert) 13 January 2011
Under the Code, no provision to change Caste.
If there a provision like this, no parent will object for inter caste love marriages
adv. rajeev ( rajoo ) (Expert) 13 January 2011
because of love you cannot change your caste.

If you want to change your caste to patel caste, make a request to patel caste members to accept you as their caste, and if they agreed you can become Patel caste otherwise not. Even Court can not make a declaration to that effect.

According to Supreme Court, the children will get only their father's caste and they do not have any option to choose their caste either mother or father.
Advocate. Arunagiri (Expert) 13 January 2011
Mr.Ramachandran, in Tamil nadu i am very sure that the child can have the choice. Please see the rules:-

The children born in inter caste marriage shall be considered to be belonging to either community of the father or mother according to the declaration of the parent. The declaration made in respect of one child will apply for all the children (G.O.Ms.No.477, SW, dated 27.6.75) (G.O.2D.No.17, AD & TW, dated 16.8.94).

I agree with Sh. Arunagiri and also a child who is having father (deceased/ living) inherits his father's caste whereas a child who had mother only and due to some social problem, the mother do not cast the caste or whereabouts of the father of the child, then the child automatically gets the caste of his mother.

And soon we will be getting Maternal surnames, thanks to technology as father will not be required for the bringing of the offspring, this will be easily done alone by the mother.

Thanks to all for the response.

the notation in socialogy,
"castism is never been changed, it comes from only by brith"
so the caste cannot be changed. And i agreed Mr. Arunagiri ji's advise.
