Sir, I am an central government employee . I can be a member of Society registered under Society registration act 1860.
Central government employees can generally join societies registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. However, to become an office bearer, prior permission from your department or Head of Department (HoD) is usually required. It's advisable to inform your office about your involvement, especially if the society's objectives are not against the law.

Any suggestion depends upon the objectives for which the Society has been formed and/or its activities.

What type of society / objectives / purpose you want to join?
It would always be better to inform your office.

I endorse and appreciate opinion and advise of experts. What is the aim and objective of the Society ? You can not become office bearer without prior permission of your HoD.
