I have a property to be bought. I have approached advocate for looking into the papers and doing the advocate work and complete the transaction including registration and other formalities to complete the transaction. How much should the advocate charge ? Is it normally a percentage of the property agreed sale-value ?

Sometimes the value of the work done by an Advocate comes above the total value of the property .So one could not connect the Fees with Property value .

I think all the responses are only partially true. In my opinion there is a relation between property value and the fees. Most lawyers quote 1% of property value, unless there is abnormal difference in the number of activities involved. I expected the lawyer forum to be more realistic and open on this issue.

Thanks to all sir but when an advocate charges abnormally this type of question comes around. After all We should have to calculate our fee in relation to pain taken by us and time and expertise used by us.
I can frankly say that in registry work the advocate do nothing and take no pain even to go through the paper typed by the typist. However rupees 5000/- is more than enough for this work only irrespective of value of document.( some advocates do same work for rupees 200/- only)
The job search of title is very tough and a payment of 5000/- to 50,000/- is proper depending upon type of search.
