We are planning to register an NGO under societies registration act-1860, and want to operate 5-6 states in India. So, please suggest who will registered our organization & where??.
Also, can we register it under companies act 2013 for non-profit development purposes.

You can register it at one place and have it as head office and open branches at different states. For a detailed procedure you can consult a local advocate/consultant and proceed further as per the advises procured.

In each and every district, there will be one District Registrar - Societies. You have to file an application along with its annexures and fees.
Based on this the DR-S will approve and issue registration certificate. By having registration in one district, you can operate across the country.
