I have received notice from ACP, Delhi Police to attend in person. Whereas I am staying at Mumbai. the notice mentions that it is for enquiring about a compliant filed by a person, possibly who had worked under me earlier.
Is it compulsory to attend in person, or I can respond by mail?

1. Well, if the notice is official then you better inquire form the A.C.P. by sending in e-mail that would facilitate the process of your being interrogated by the A.C.P.in the matter of complaint before him.
2. I think this looks like fictitious complaint. Criminal complaints are lodged where the cause of offense has taken place.
3. If you have never had done any criminal offense in the jurisdiction of such A.C.P. then you need not respond to such notice to appear in person before such A.C.P.
4. Usually a notice is given u/s 41-A Cr.P.C. by the police when they have reasons to believe that the complaint matter is not cognizable and there is no need to arrest the person against whom a complaint has been made.
5. If you think that the complainant can be any of your subordinates when you may happen to be in Delhi then in that case try and recall the actual incident that may have provoked such person to make a complaint against you.
6. Try and first get into e-mail communication. Then if it required then you can appear before such police officer.
7. One is supposed to obey the notice sent by a Police Officer u/s 41-A of the Cr.P.C. 1973.
8. If need be talk to this lawyer for further private legal consultation.

Engage a local lawyer in Delhi to find out the exact matter. Appear before the officer as required.

1. ACP is conducting his enquiry for which he has sent you he said notice being very well aware that you are staying at Mumbai,
2. Better take the trouble of personally appearing before him to avoid bigger trouble later on.

Alternatively, depute your lawyer (by appointing somebody at Delhi) with a copy of notice to ascertain the facts and the need for your presence.

Dear G. Mohan Rao,
1. The notice may not bear the reference of s. 41-A of Cr.P.C. but is implied.
2. I think you should speak to this lawyer and get to know why you have been summoned by such Police Officer.
3. The email id of such A.C.P. can be derived from the Google Search Engine by typing ' A.C.of Police New Delhi On line contacts'.
