Loss of pay

Have been working with a family established College as a Lecturer for over 6 years. There is no contract that I have signed nor was I informed about any policy for loss of pay.Everything I did was for family and friends and all was well till this deduction happened for the month of August 2013. I need to know if this can be done in such an ad hoc manner?

What type of deduction happened, why it was deducted.
no inference can be got from the query what are the facts and what is query based on these facts? need more facts.

Mr Goyal, Thank you for your response and I agree that you will need more facts which I will provide once my salary slip is given. All I was told by sms was that it was TDS(which is perfectly fine) and Loss of pay which I can only assume is for leave taken. No contract has been signed by me for my employment nor any leave policy discussed.

No use of waste of time without facts about the nature of deduction! If you don't settle the terms of emplyment with the employer, how anyone can help merely on presumptions?

Thank you all for your responses and sorry for the trouble. Will settle with terms of employment as Mr Dhingra has suggested and then revert.
