Non refund of rs. 8 lacs by brother in law

I paid Rs. 8 lacs over a period of 3 years to my brother in law for starting a new business. He acknowledged receipt on a plain piece of paper. Since last six months, he has been evading me and not responding to my calls. I fear, loss of my money, which i gave in good faith will get lost. Please advise me suitably as I want to move court

did you advance money by cheque or cash ?
i do hope acknowledgment of liability on plain paper is signed by your brother in law .
contact a local lawyer . issue legal notice to brother in law . if he fails to pay file a summary suit .

First try to contact your relative and try to extract money given to him, what you can. Also get some Promissory note signed or get some post dated Cheques.
Once you issue legal notice possibly you will stop having dialogues with him and pressure for your money would be difficult. Before this step try to be legally sound in a diplomatic way.

If amicable settlement is not arrived at then send a legal notice followed by civil suit for recovery or file a criminal case alleging fraud.
