Dear Sir, I am a investor and has invested in a property in Kolkata. I have maded full payment as and when the installment became due and took posession of the property. I have received lettr from a builder to get a registration done but as a investor I am scouting for a buyer in whose name I can nominate the property by giving the requisite transfer charges and the buyer could then get the property registered in his name so that I do not spend unnecesay registration charges and stamp duty. My query is that is thare a law that I have to get the property registered within a time limit from the date of possession ?

For that you have to make complaint with the Consumer Forum under section 12 of the Act. There are three consumer forums at Kolkata. If you mention the locality of your property or the Police station to be precise then the name of proper forum for such complaint could be provided for to you.

you are fortunate that builder is coming forward to protect your interests by having document for purchase of property registered . a document which is not stamped and not registered is in admissible in evidence . since you have made full payments and have taken posession complete the legal formalities and then try to sell the property

Law of Evidence has not strict application in the Consumer protection Act specially when the agreement is not disputed by the other side.
