Dear Client,
Indian Government has recently changed the law regarding Indian Citizenship. It will issue an Overseas Citizenship Card to American/any other Foreign country Children born to indian Parents with life time visa which can be used with any passport. But it should not be confused with dual citizenship. PIO card also OCI will be printed. But it doesn't have all the rights as a full Indian citizen has. You can start business here and get profits using your OCI and American Passport buy properties residential or commercial except agricultural land or Plantation etc, right to vote in elections to the country or state etc.and treated on par with NRIs in everything including tax benefits as provided to NRIs.

Dear Client,
Sine 1999 OCI CARD sCHEME CONFERRING MOST OF THE iNDIAN CITIZENSHIP RIGHTS ON OVERSEAS CITIZENS BORN IN AMERICA or any other Foreign Country BUT TO Indian parents government HAS Passed Over Seas Citizenship of India LAW AND BY VIRTUE OF THAT LAW ISSUED OCI card. Al though it is short of a full fledged CITIZENSHIP THESE PEOPLE ARE TREATED ON PAR WITH NRI's IN educational, EMPLOYMENT, business, /VOTING RIGHTS IN /STATE AND gENERAL ELECTIONS OWNING PROPERTIES EXCEPT AGRICULTURAL LAND AND pLANTATIONS.Any length of time they can stay in India.OCI holders enjoy same tax benefits as NRIs.

Normally depends upon, when you settled in Pakistan, prior to or post partition of India.
Also, was there any specific reason to renounce Pak citizenship?

Excellent info. Thank you. I would need info on OCI IF the EMBASSY/CONSULATE can issue that. Seems to be a lengthy process.

You may process your application for acquiring Indian citizenship as per procedure set for the purpose and law governing the subject matter, as advised by experts.
Consult the issue with some expert/ professional before proceeding, it is a cumbersome issue involving various legal requirement/implications.

Not possible still require to check if any latest amendment is done in Citizenship Act 1955.
I quote the statement which is in Citizenship Act 1955
for Overseas Citizen of India
"Provided no person who is or had been a citizen of Pakistan , Bangladesh or such other country as central govt. may by notification in Official Gazette specify , shall be eligible for registration as an oversees citizen of India "
Now US Citizen can easily get Electronic Visa by applying online . So I feel even if you don't get OCI card you can visit India as tourist for 3 months and spend time here without much hurdle.
If you want to invest in India then other laws you require to think and study.
And leaving US citizenship is like loosing your privileged , so no one leaves US Citizenship. US Passport is considered very powerful passport all over world
