(Querist) 22 January 2015 This query is : Resolved
Dear Ld Members,

Through email I would like to authorise a recognised Inst.in England for 16 pounds of tuition fees to deduct from my HDFC Master Card.

They wrote: Ok, but please be wary about sending this to the right person. We would not like your details to be sent to someone else.

Now i am worried to know more faqs about these type of transactions

Queries:
1) Can they deduct more than what i authorise

2) any consequencies i have to face

Please enlighten me

The contents of the Authorization letter should specifically mention the amount and period of standing instructions and a revocation clause.

Giving your credit card details to anybody is risky. However, this institute appears to be genuine and may not misuse your authorisation. Your send any foreign remittance through Banks (only some branches are authorised to take up this business and they are called AD Authorised Dealers in Forex). Be careful hereafter.

Mr. Guru Murthy,

What is the name of the intitute and recognised by which authority/university? Recognition should not be by some fake organisation.

Secondly, will they directly charge your credit card every time or through some online banker like PayPal, Moneybooker, etc.?

It is always risky to share credit card details with any other. There are all chances to misuse the same. If they charge / debit more than authorized, your claim for refund may not succeed / practical legally, legal steps would be cost and time consuming.

Dear All,

Thank you for you answers,

@ Dhingra Sir,
Name of institute is Writers Bureau, England It is member of British Institute for Learning and Development.

Writers Bureau has accreditation by
Open & Distance Learning Quality Council (formerly CACC), set up in 1969.

They will charge directly once i give my card details. because they did not raise question of any banker like paypal, moneybooker.

I cant pay cash currently. Hence, this query of credit card.

However, i'm a student of them. This fees is to continue my course which is expired last year.

@ Rajendra Goyal Sir,
can they charge more than i authorise? (16 pounds)

Dear Guru Murthy,

Thanks for the information. For your information, the institute of Writers Bureau, England, is owned by private persons with even no description given on their website.

Secondly, nothing about affiliation to any council has been mentioned in their website.

Thirdly, Open & Distance Learning Quality Council, the organisation to which the institute is claimed to have been affiliated, is also a private organisation having no concern with any of the organisation of the Government of UK. Moreover, the name of Writers Bureau does not appear in the list of accredited institutes, which you can see from the following link of the ODLQC:
http://odlqc.org.uk/accredited-providers

Once authorised to claim installments through credit card, normally that go on continuously even after the specified period and would never end until the credit card company is specifically asked to discontinue.

So, it is not safe for you to share your credit card details with the institute. You may better instruct your credit card company to discontinue accommodating the claims made by the institute any more.

However, if you feel the necessity to continue with institute to complete the course, you may request the institute to allow you to make payment of installments through Western Union, as the institute allows that, as per detail given in the FAQ under the heading, "Enrolment/payment queries," at the following link:
