You have mentioned that the property is self acquired......... If Father is law is alive he can give it away to anyone as it pleases to him by sale/gift/WILL.......
If father in law is not alive and has not left any WILL then daughter in law and child can have a share from the son's (husband's) share ....

During the life time of father in law or upon arrangement through a Will of his property after his demise, the daughter in law or her minor son cannot stake any claim or have any right over the self acquired properties of her father in law.

The query significantly raise the question of accrual of title interest of an widow daughter-in-law in father-in-laws self earned property. If the son predeceased his father then widow daughter -in-law cannot claim any share in father-in-law's property as a matter of right. Whereas, if father-in -law dies during life time of the husband his widow can claim the share of her husband.
