(Querist) 26 February 2015 This query is : Resolved
one of School in Chembur has asked me to get attested (True Copy) the Xerox Copies of Birth Certificate, Address Proof (Ration Card) & aadhaar Card thru Gazette Officer for STD I Admission

I have done thru NOTARY Officer, I have gone to School for submission of admission form, but the concern Officer / teacher is not sure of Notary Officer being as Gazette Officer who has the power for attested (True Copy) Kindly let me know whether Notary Officer (Public Notary) has the power to get documents attested by them

If the teacher is not sure, she can as well verify herself the xerox copies with originals and make a note that originals seen. Normally Notary attestation is legally recognized one and they cannot refuse to accept the documents. Nowadays no gazetted officer is ready to attest the documents. Many organizations adopt two methods - one is self-attestation by the canddiate/parents - second is verification of xerox copies with original by them and make a note that "original seen" on the copies and put the signature of the verifying person. It is not a problem to ask this forum. You could have settled it with the teacher who is not sure of her own acts.

A Notary is authorised to administer oaths under the Oath's Act and generally is an advocate of standing. As such, his attestation is as good as, or even better, the attestation by a Gazzetted Officer.

The School authorities are indlulging unncessary nitpicking.

Attestation by a Notary Public is very much valid. Notary is also equivalent to a gazetted officer for such purposes.
