An assessment order under the Income Tax Act, 1961, was digitally signed by an officer using an expired digital signature. The signature's validity ended before the order was issued. Experts generally agree that such an order is invalid and legally questionable according to the Information Technology Act, 2000, and would likely need to be re-signed by the assessing officer to be legally binding.
