insurance for any person is not compulsory in India,
It will only add to education expenses, if done compulsory, as it will increase student's fees. No one is going to pay from their pocket.
Their parents can as well insure their children

Insurance is not compulsory as of now.
However, when you have a group that has to be insured, the premiums are very low.
Even for an individual, the accident insurance policy for Rs. 1 Lakh is Rs. 100 per year if he takes a policy alone. So when you take it in a group it is lower than this.
Please go ahead and do it if it is possible for you. Nowadays parents pay thousands of rupees as school fees and bus fees and other charges, they would not mind if you charge something less than Rs. 100 per year and not make profit out of it.
There is no medical checkup or any other conditions attached to the accident cover.
In fact I wonder why the banks do not cover all their deposit holders and customers like credit card customers for accident insurance at almost negligible cost. I do keep on requesting them to do so.
