My dad had a few physical shares on his name. The specimen signature registered with the company records was a different one and due to health conditions he had a stroke 2 years back due to which he cannot sign at present. Now we are intending to get the shares dematerialized and for that request needs to be submitted to the company. Can you just advise the procedure for processing the same request.

Your father has to swear an affidavit before the Magistrate declaring his present signature as true and the previous signature becoming impractical due to stroke. Thereafter you send the attested copy of the same to the concerned company for changing the specimen. This is the legal way.

You can also get attestation of signatures from Notary Public and this is also valid.

First step is, approach a broker for opening D-mat account. He will assist you how to overcome the difficulty in change of specimen signature. He will obtain and supply you the form suggested by Expert Mr.Prabhakar singh. If required he will assist you in preparing the affidavits. You are required to handover the physical share certificates for opening the D-mat account.
