Is the presence of settlee (one who receives the settlement) required at the registrar office during registration? Or can it be done without settlee presence? Settlee is currently abroad.
This discussion clarifies whether a settlee, particularly an NRI, must be physically present during the registration of a settlement deed. It is confirmed that the settlee can appoint an attorney or grant a power of attorney to act on their behalf. Some states may also accept specific authorisation forms, requiring the settlee's photo and signature, which can be sent abroad for completion.

Where is the property situate with its State? In some States, an authorisation in a Form under Sec.32-A of Registration Ac is sufficient. Then the said Form shall be sent to the settlee for his photo and signature with the signature and photo of the person who represents the settlee.
