Rental issues

(Querist) 08 July 2014 This query is : Resolved
Hi,

I have rented out my property. I haven't made any agreement with the renter. Is there any way the renter could claim that the property belongs to him. I have heard from my friends that by paying property tax for few years or by residing as a renter for a long period, the renter could claim that the property belongs to him. How can I protect myself against such claims?

You are misinformed.
If you issue rent receipt and he acknowledges you as a landlord even once he can not ever claim ownership over the property.

Please enter into a rental agreement. Unless he does some fraud,he cannot claim ownership of the house.Since the property is in your name, any body including tenant can make payment. Your apprehensions are ill founded.

You must be having title of the property, without title documents ownership can not be proved easily.

You have been misinformed by somebody hence you are afraid of the issue. There is nothing like that. Please consult a local advocate and take his further advise on the subject.
