Name spelling error

(Querist) 02 May 2016 This query is : Resolved
Dear Sir,

In my 10th mark sheet my name is misspelled as "Jeyamohan".
In my college certificates, it's spelled correctly as "Jayamohan".
There is error in second letter in my 10th marksheet.
Currently I am living in Bangalore (for past 14 years.)
Now i am trying for UPSC exam.
I would like to get the affidavit done for name correction, Central government gazette notification, and publishing in news paper.
My doubt is where should i do this procedure?
Is it mandatory that i should initiate the same from Tamil nadu, in my native place where i studied (or) can i do this procedure in Bangalore itself?

Kindly clarify.

Thanks and Regards

My doubt is should i need to do this in my native itself or can i do in Bangalore also.

Whether this make any difference?

1. It can be done anywhere.
2. It would not affect your career if you do not get it corrected. Not required.

Dear Sir,
Thanks for your feedback.

Reference to UPSC advertisement, the following rules for name change...
"In other circumstances for change of name for both male and female -
Deed Poll/Affidavit duly sworn before the Oath Commissioner and paper cuttings of two
leading daily newspaper in original (One daily newspaper should be of the area of
applicants permanent and present address or nearby area) and Gazette Notification."

Also UPSC didn't mentioned anything about name spelling error.

I don't want to take a chance by ignoring the spelling and get rejected at the time of interview. This is the only reason i am trying to get the required procedure done sir.

Thanks and Regards
Jayamohan

The spelling discrepancy does not amount to change of name. If UPSC insists, you may give an affidavit to the effect that "Jeyamohan"and "Jayamohan" is one and the same person.

I agree with expert Mr.Venu.

You can get the position clarified from UPSC through RTI.

Thank you very much for all your support.
I will get clarified with UPSC through RTI.

Has UPSC taken objection? If not, there is no need to bother.

No need to change your name as it is clerical or typo-graphical mistake/error. Its a curable problem.

If your all records including school records are with the name Jayamohan, then you can take the plea of correction for the mistake. You apply to the 10th Board for correction of your certificate by submitting all the facts and the reasons for the delay in applying for correction and receive the acknowledgement from the Board and use the same whenever it is required (even for UPSC purspose).

In case your school records upto 10th class are with different from Jayamohan i.e with 'Jeyamohan' then you have to proceed with the process of name change.

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your feedback.

My 10th and PUC marksheet both has my name as "Jeyamohan".

All my degree certificates and Transfer certificate, Passport etc.. has the name as "Jayamohan"

I completed my 10th in the year of 1995.
This is very long period and now it's impossible to approach the board for name correction.

As Mr.Rajendra K Goyal suggested, I filled RTI with UPSC and awaiting feedback from them.

Thanks for all your support.
Regards
Jayamohan
