First you go thru., the case and on the relevant point or law you will get the citations. You will get the citations in the ready reckoner

then to decide the subject it will come and after reading headnotes itself you will learn what the case dealt with

the main citations
e.g AIR, Cr.L.J, M.L.J, they come with year, valume No. and page No.. Read the notations and go through the entire case details.
For searching citations
check with the provision of law which you are want from the index page of a law journal. it will be catagorised under headings
