Different execution and registration dates in a will?

Hi,

Is it legally permissible to execute a Will first, and have it registered on a later date? Moreover, is that advisable, or is it better to have the Will executed and registered, both on the same day?

A Will may be presented at any time after its execution by the testator. This facility is only for Wills. But any other document shall be presented within 4 months after its execution.

Yes a will can be get registered at any time after its execution even it can be registered after death of testator but to avoid any suspicious/doubt should be registered on the day of execution.

Under Section 18(e) of the Registration Act, 1908, registering a Will is entirely optional. An unregistered Will, once properly executed (signed by the testator in the presence of at least two attesting witnesses who also sign in the testator's presence), is legally complete and valid.
While Section 23 of the Registration Act imposes a strict 4-month deadline to register standard deeds (like sale or gift deeds), Section 27 explicitly exempts Wills. A Will can be presented for registration at any time during the testator's lifetime—weeks, months, or even years after execution. It can even be registered posthumously by a beneficiary.
