Permanent Address in Passports

(Querist) 29 June 2010 This query is : Resolved
I am residing in Gurgaon since 2001 and at my current residence for the last 4 years. It is a rented accommodation. I am from UP and do not have a permanent address as the house in UP has been sold. What should be filled in the space for permanent address when applying for passport?

Can I put my current rented residence address as my permanent address also?

Please also quote the relevant law / section so that I may present it before the passport officer in case of any issues.

Permanent address is one where a person could be found resonably living / residing for a continious period of 90 days.

In my opinion since you have made GGN your resonable residence you may give same address as Pmt. address.

Issue will arise if anyone challenges and or during verification you are not found to be present at quoted address and or adverse comments recived from non well wisher neighbours who also are asked about your residence status and if they know you. A form is filed by neighbour during police verification and if you are in good terms with immediate neighbours then you may like to alert them of such form filing.

You may also show tentant verification acknowledgement slip when you took the place for residence some 4 years back.

Rgds.

Since 2001 you are living in Gurgoan and so you can use it as your permanent address.
