In India, family and society gives too much of advices that couple turn inward to professional advice, which is wrong. A professional help has credibility and experience of dealing with numerous cases like yours. You should always go through a counselor, no matter what. If the counselor thinks that reasons for divorce are immature and both parties do not understand what it takes to succeed in a marriage, then reconsidering and re-evaluating your decision will never hurt. And otherwise, if divorce is inevitable as understood by a professional, his/her opinion will weigh in your favor during legal proceedings of court.

A marriage counsellor is basically a psychologist, whose job/ duty whatever you call it, is to bring you both to an amicable solutions to your day to day problems arising out of temperamental differences.
His opinions are not binding on courts.

Marriage Counselors are Psychologist who go through the root problem of the marital discord and render their advises so that the marriage can work. In Family Courts also Marriage Counselors are appointed but generally they are not psychologist rather they are politically appointed so called social workers. Preferably they are women.
