certainly. a society can change its name by way of passing resolution within the board, further you go to the office of the Intelluctual property Rights for clarifying the new name after verfication you may apply to the District Registrar of societies, along with all the documents.

Thank you for all. We have registered a society for cultural purpose and received certificate with society name, name of our local place at the end. But in the next meeting members are disagreed with this. when approached to registrar office they said it a usual procedure for avoiding clash with societies with same name (Reg. in another district) and cannot change the name of society after issuing the certificate. is this true? Other societies are not using the local name in the programs or events. Can we get reg. certificate with the local place name removed in same reg. no.?
