WHAT IS THE DIFERANCE BETWEEN PRIEVET DOCUMENT AND PUBLIC DOCUMENT
Parthasarathi Loganathan (Expert) 11 November 2010
Public documents are indexed by search engines, so they'll show up in search results on Scribed and elsewhere.

Private documents aren't indexed and don't show up in search results. If you want to be absolutely sure no search engine will index your document, you should mark it private while you're uploading it.

Otherwise, there'll be a period of time before you mark it private when search engines could find it.

Public documents can show up in the Explore page. Private documents will not. This opinion is rendered purely in the capacity of IT professional.

Public documents can be accessed using URLs that look like this: http://www.scribd.com/doc/1234567890/Title.

Private documents' URLs include an extra "secret_password" parameter, without which they can't be accessed.

Public and private documents can both be embedded in a blog or web site. Unlike public documents, however, people who view an embedded private document cannot re-embed the document into another web page, nor can they share the document with anyone else.

Links to public documents can be emailed using the Share & Embed tab. Private documents cannot be emailed this way.
Devajyoti Barman (Expert) 11 November 2010
I am not aware of the nature of such differences as suggested by Mr Loganathan as from the legal perspective as prevalent in India the section 74 and 75 of the Indian Evidence Act makes the definitions of the public document and the private document.
Public Document-
1.documents forming the acts and records of the acts-
i)of the sovereign authority
ii)of official bodies and tribunals
iii)of public officer, judicial and executive etc.
2. Public records kept in nay State of Private documents.
Private Documents-
All other documents are private.
