Hi all,

In a Hindu joint family when partition is done in joint family properties while father is alive,by alloting property shares to father and children seperately..
(1)Does the mother have a right to ask a share seperately in joint family properties for herself only?
(2)Is it mandatory to allot a share to mother while father is alive (or) is it optional to allot a share to mother while father is alive?

Allotment of share to mother is optional. However both the children and the father are legally liable to provide maintenance to that lady.
