It depends upon the terms and conditions of the appointment.
Generally if the performance of the employee is not satisfactory during the probationary period, his service can be terminated by issuing say 1/2/3 months notice or in lier of salary.
Hence go through the conditions of the appointment letter and act accordingly.

Probation is just like a training period during which performance of an employee is test checked. So, he can be terminated any time during probation, but in conformity with the terms and conditions stipulated in his appoitment letter about probation.
