Kindly let me know if one can pray for stay order from a court on the basis of a rent agreement which is not registered.

if the stay is granted without your appearance than you can take the benefit when you first appear in the court and if the stay is granted in your presence than you can file the revision of the order.

Yes, stay order may be passed by court on the basis of a rent agreement which is not registered.

Tenancy agreement is not compulsorily registrable document though the lease deed is.

You can seek for the stay even without rent agreement. The rent agreement need to be registered only when the period is above 11 months.
