The Bench of court deciding the case it self marks if the judgement would be reportable or not depending upon its importance in its own view.

But ratio decendi of its all judgments have a binding nature on all courts.

Of judgments not reported ,a certified copy may be obtained and may be cited in any case, and all subordinate courts would be bound to accept the same.

Mr Prabhakar Singh is correct I do agree with him.
Shailesh Kr. Shah (Expert) 25 October 2011
Reportable means, which is reported in law reporters like AIR etc.

on other side non-reportable is not published in law reporters.

Shri Prabhakar Singh describes both values aptly.

I add with the post of Prabhakar sir-

It is not binding to a publisher to publish only reportable judgments. Some of publishers do publishes unreproted judgments as well.

Ravikant Soni (Expert) 25 October 2011
The term is "Reportable".
Nowhere "Unreportable".

The court of record only gives suggestion as "Reportable", never marks as "unrepotable" or "non-repotable".
prabhakar singh (Expert) 26 October 2011
Agree with Mr.soni explanation too.several publishers publish all judgments of supreme courts whether marked reportable or not.
