Dear sirs/madams, one of my friend is Government employee in registrations department, one local news paper has published a news article making some false allegations to damage reputation. now our query is while filing a case defamation, how to calculate the damage in monitory terms, I.e., how much amount to claim for such damage. awaiting reply.

Further add to R.K.Nanda sir opinion, first you have to give notice to the Management of the News paper, claiming damages what ever you want.

Better to ignore such things if no practical damage is caused. If he suffers real loss, he can go ahead. If everybody goes filing defamation cases against the wrong news items, the judiciary will be burdened with avoidable litigation.
