Can a police officer register an f.i.r on source information by himself and investigate by himself

(Querist) 17 November 2013 This query is : Resolved 
A police officer (officer-in charge of a police station)on source information have drawn up an F.I.R and have signed the F.I.R by himself, registered the same and have taken up the investigation by himself.
Is the whole proceeding and the investigation is allowed in law? Any suitable judgement of Supreme court of India , if any. I will be glad if you all reply the same. Thank you....

If any body is not satisfy with investigation can apply to higher authority or high court for transfer the case

no, court can not interfare in investigation but if the accused think that the investigation will not be fair & wants to change the IO then file a application in Higher authority of police
