yes departmental enquiry can be initiated after retirement too.

however, all this will be subject to the service rules applicable.

I agree with our experts. But wish to add that Department Enquiry findings and proceedings have been dismissed by many courts and there are many precedents to this effect

Due to continuation of certain benefits such as pensions/medical etc after retirement, the employer-employee relation does not come to an absolute end and it has been held that inquiry in to a misconduct during service tenure can be looked into after retirement too and a disciplinary action in terms of stoppage / reduction in pension can be taken after an inquiry.

Domestic enquiries could be held against employees after their retirement only in cases of mis-appropriation of funds or of any offence that cause loss to the employer in terms of money and not otherwise.
