I want to sell a land which I have acquired as a survivor of my deceased father.After the mutual partition,I have got the deed for the same but I haven't got the khatian(record of rights) yet.I have applied for the khatian and have the application receipt.On 23/10/11,there was a news in the local daily 'Dainik Sambad' that now a sale deed can be registered with the application receipt for khatian if the khatian is not received yet.I want a confirmation from experts regarding the same so that I can proceed with the selling.

khatian means mutation. In your case, you are duly entitled to be incorporated in mutation. Generally it takes 2-3 months to complete this process. You should enquire from local revenue officers about the status of your application.
