Right to information act

Guest (Querist) 23 June 2011 This query is : Resolved
It has became frequent that public authorities deny the information citing any clause of section 8 and also mentioning that the information doen't relates to public interest. They also say that since the information is more than 20 years old therefore information cannot be provided.
Now two main questions emerge that
can information be denied or is it avaible only on the issue of public interest. Does RTI Act states this any where?
Secondly, Can an information which is more than 20 years old be denied by the PIo citing the same reason?
I think these days PIOs has found an easy way to deny the information. How should they be tackled on these points? Even state information commissions seems to appreciate PIOs for reasons unknown.

1. The information can not be denied for want of public interest.

2. What ever the information available the PIO has to provide, the age of the document is not at a matter.

make an appeal to the appellate authority who will entertain the appeal.
