CAN Anbody please help me to know.. What is QUASHING OF FIR????

Because my wife has filed fir against my family member . And its false case ..
One Friend suggest to this but i could not understand what he wants to say exactly... please let me know.what dose it mean.

Quashing of FIR in simple words means if you think that the allegations made by your wife are false and baseless, then you can file a petition at the High court to quash the said FIR and stop the further proceedings of the said case.
