Passport varification by police staff.

I have applied for renewal of passport since it has eaxpired.i have submitted all the documents about my stay proof of last 5 years including a society letter.now police verification staff is asking for attested copies of all the documents submitted and also they insist that one of your neighbour should come and give statement in police chowky.
police staff is not there whenever we go there at the given time. i can not take any of my neighbour as they are afraid of going to police chowky.I requested the police staff to come to my society and take their statement.Can anybody give some guidance for this.i am 60 years old and i am applying for renewal for the 3rd time in my life.

generally cops come to society and take statement from 2 neighbours that applicant is staying in society premises. they take signature of the neighbours .

however if cops are insisting then you have to request your neighbour to come to police station .

Yes you can go one more time and explain your personal health reason, and solve the problem.
normally those officer come to your place and verify the record and statement from you and your neighbor.

if police wants to harrass u for their interest how long they can hold ur passport papers for varification.within city itself it takes 25 to 30 days to reach the concerned police chowky and then the actual police work starts.
